Your child’s language
It is a strange issue as to how you decide that your child’s speech and language are developing in line with his peers. happily my own two seemed to move forward exactly as they should. But recently we invited friends to stay and their son showed development problems that were holding him back beyond his age. That is such a sensitive area.
Now you might think “well, any parent whose son is in that dilemma will want to find out what is happening” – you do not need a degree to know that three year olds usually chatter nineteen to the dozen. But the fear is that an investigation might suddenly reveal that the child is autistic or deaf. Then the family has a lifelong condition to address. There is a new service that can assist you through the child’s life for a low annual fee, to track your children’s speech and language development from three months onwards. In this way, early intervention can be an option if there is anything causing concern. You can find out more at speechquest.net, and use this code for a 20 per cent discount when you register your child: BVT1015 (expires 31/3/2010)
Using this service can avoid the stress of waiting months for a hospital appointment, and it is especially helpful if you are an ex-pat British family living away from your regular UK Speech and Language services.
