Next time I am going away
OK so I was naive – I went along with the idea that staying home and cooking for eight people was a fun way of spending 25 December: I really should know better! While I was slaving over a hot stove there were dozens of Hotels in London offering a way out, where I could be waited on and simply walk into the dining room to enjoy a superb festive feast cooked by other people. When you stay in central London you also have the chance to walk around uncrowded streets and see the shop window decorations, then of course you can stroll along the river near Blackfriars and marvel at one of the best riverside views in the world.The rest of the country has plenty on offer at this time of year as well, of course. The central Hotels in Birmingham are right on the doorstep for the trendy clubs and bars of canal street and also convenient for the main shopping centre in case you want to get yourself a new iPod in the new year sales.
Hotels in Manchester are also offering great rates – one of the iconic places to stay in my home city is the Midland Hotel, well situated for the conference centre and shops, and you can get a room there at the moment from £90 a night. Take me home!
